Shopaax.combased near Newark, voluntarily recalled sex enhancement product Kingdom Honey Royal Honey VIP due to the presence of sildenafil, the active ingredient in the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra.
The announcement was made by the US Food and Drug Administration.
The use of Viagra and its generic equivalent is limited to use under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals.
Use of products containing the undeclared active ingredient may pose a threat to consumers, as the active ingredient may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs (such as nitroglycerin) and may cause a significant drop in blood pressure potentially life-threatening blood pressure, an FDA statement stated.
People with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take nitrates. Among the adult male population most likely to use these products, adult men who use nitrates for heart problems have the highest exposure to these products.
The product comes in a golden box and contains 12 sachets of 20 grams of honey with different stamped expiry dates. It is promoted and sold for sexual enhancement on various websites including www.shopaax.com and possibly in some retail stores. The product has been put on sale Shopaax.com at the beginning of last yearwith sales suspended on July 22 this year.
The recall was initiated after an FDA lab analysis confirmed that Kingdom Honey Royal Honey VIP contains sildenafil.
The sale of this product was suspended on Shopaax.com The company has temporarily removed all other products from the website pending an investigation. Product may still be available on other websites and retail stores.
