Viagra appears to be the new ivermectin for anti-vaccines

We’ve been living through a one-of-a-kind public health crisis for the past two years, but there is good news: As of last spring, there has been a free, effective and widely available vaccine that can greatly alleviate symptoms. And yet hospitalizations and deaths continue to be high. Why? Because much of the nation refuses to take it. Instead, they turned to “miracle cures” like ivermectin or massive, expensive cocktails that most people couldn’t afford. But it seems that horse dewormers were also used last year.

Tucker Carlson, a regular peddler of life-threatening COVID disinformation on Friday, devoted a segment to a potential new COVID treatment, and it turns out to be arguably the most famous pill in the world. That’s right, it looks like anti-vaccines are about to take over Viagra.

The Right seized on a history of the UK (as captured by The New York Post), where Monica Almeida – a fully vaccinated nurse and asthmatic with asthma – was awakened from a 28-day coma after doctors gave her the drug to correct erectile dysfunction in men. She was 72 hours away from removing her ventilator, but after being given a “heavy dose” of Viagra, her airways opened and she recovered.

“It was definitely Viagra that saved me. In less than 48 hours, my airwaves were opened and my lungs started to respond, ”Almeida, who works as a respiratory specialist, told The Sun. “If you think about how the medicine works, it dilates your blood vessels. I have asthma and my alveoli needed a little help.

Almeida was released on Christmas Eve, but she has a long way to go to make a full recovery. She says she is still “weak and fragile” and although mentally she is “as good as ever” she becomes “a little teary and frustrated at times”.

Is this incredible news? Yes. Should a single, involving an immunocompromised woman who has been previously vaxxed, be applied to absolutely everyone, including those who have not been vaxxed? Probably not. But when Almeida’s story crossed the pond, it was of course seized by those who have spread the disinformation about COVID. Carlson invited Dr Marc Singel to sing the praises of a drug that helps men get erections on Friday.

“Who thought Viagra would save us from the pandemic? Carlson sang, although his guest was slightly more worried. Singel pointed out that Viagra is “not only used for what you think it is used for,” it “also treats lung problems and improves blood circulation.” But his optimism was mixed with caution, admitting that this is all “the start of something” and that more research is needed.

Carlson, however, already seemed convinced, saying, “You say if you take a massive dose of Viagra, you wake up. So I think it’s obvious.

But it’s not that obvious, and on top of that, Viagra costs money (and requires a prescription), while vaccines are, again, free. The news has already sparked jokes.

Yet regardless of which company owns Viagra, they are likely to make a lot of money from vaccine skeptics who are unwilling to donate money to Big Pharma. Which company is it anyway? The answer may surprise them: it’s Pfizer.
