Johnson Controls continues to support student meals through its backpack program

Since 2016, Johnson Controls has been providing weekend meals to many local students who may not be getting the food they need while away from school. Jill Kakuk, human resources manager at Johnson Controls, said: “Some members of our leadership team within the organization have realized the need within the community where students come to school on Monday mornings, obviously tired and struggling to pay attention.

Kakuk says, “Each bag contains enough groceries to last a student through a weekend.”

More than 7,000 bags of food are provided to students during the school year through the Backpack program, and much of the funding for the Backpack program comes directly from employee donations, fundraisers, Johnson Controls, Milwaukee Bucks and many area businesses. Participating school districts include Marinette, Menominee, Stephenson, North Central and Powers. Any business or individual interested in sponsoring a school or donating to the Backpack program can contact Jill Kakuk or Maggie Faccio at 715-735-7411 or Chris Behrend at 715-732-1703.
