The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has said that the birth certificate of Ukpo Nwamini David, the kidney donor in the trial of Ike Ekweremadu, former Deputy Speaker of the Senate, is actually 21 years old and not 15 as reported. claims so.
Amos Okpu, the NIS spokesman, revealed this in a statement released on Sunday after interacting with reporters.
Okpu said the birth certificate and National Identity Number (NIN) slip presented by Ukpo during international passport registration show he is 21 years old.
Thereafter, “he proceeded to the Gwagwalada Immigration Office in Abuja with his birth certificate issued by the National Population Commission, his National Identification Number (NIN) and a letter of citizenship from the office. Ebonyi State liaison confirming that he is from the State”.
The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service said all available information provided by David showed he was born on October 12, 2000.

“The Nigerian Immigration Service relies on information and documentation from other government agencies such as the National Population Commission and the National Identification Management Commission,” he added.
He said David’s case was not an exception as the immigration department followed all due process in issuing him the international passport.
Isah Jere Idris therefore appealed to the public to know that as a Nigerian, David has been issued a valid Nigerian international passport.
Asked whether the UK government or the National Assembly had contacted the immigration office regarding David’s case, the Comptroller General said no one had contacted the service.
