Britney Spears announces miscarriage


May 16, 2022 – Britney Spears and her fiancé, Sam Asghari, announced over the weekend that the singer had suffered a miscarriage.

The news comes just over a month after Spears, 40, revealed she was pregnant and about 6 months after she was released from a 13-year-old conservatorship.

“It is with our greatest sadness that we have to announce that we lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy,” Spears said. wrote in an Instagram post the Saturday.

“This is a devastating time for any parent. Perhaps we should have waited to announce that we were further along,” she said. “However, we were too excited to share the good news.”

Spears has two teenage sons, Jayden and Preston, with ex-husband Kevin Federline. She and Asghari have been engaged since September, according to for The Hollywood Reporter.

During court proceedings to end the conservatorship last year, Spears testified that the arrangement prevented her from getting married or removing a form of IUD contraception, according to for The New York Times. Reproductive rights advocates said forced birth control was legally questionable and violated Spears’ autonomy. A Los Angeles judge ended the conservatorship and Spears announced her engagement.

In Saturday’s post, Spears and Asghari said they would still try for another baby.

“Our love for each other is our strength. We will keep trying to grow our beautiful family,” she wrote. “We are grateful for all of your support. We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult time.
