Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, have been arrested and charged with bringing a child to the UK for organ removal.
It is uncertain whether those arrested are the former Deputy Speaker of the Nigerian Senate and his wife, but the description given by British police matches their profile.
Confirming the arrests in a statement, the Metropolitan Police said the pair were brought to trial on Thursday following an investigation by the force’s specialist crime team.
Police added the investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offenses under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.
