Mark Cuban launched Cost Plus Drug Company in January 2022, which offers essential pharmaceutical products at more economical prices. In partnership with Dr. Alex Oshmyansky, the shark tank star plans to disrupt the healthcare industry with affordable drugs for consumers. Cuban recently tweeted that Cost Plus just acquired more products and fully intends to add to the list.
Mark Cuban’s latest mission really makes a difference
With countless consumers unable to afford essential pharmaceuticals, Cuba has worked to reduce costs and transparency for patients nationwide. By partnering with Oshmyansky, the billionaire is prioritizing accessibility to lifesaving drugs at great prices.
“We started Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company because every American should have access to safe and affordable drugs,” Cuban wrote in the company’s mission statement. “If you don’t have insurance or have a high-deductible plan, you know that even the most basic medications can cost a fortune. Many people spend crazy amounts of money each month just to stay healthy. No American should have to suffer or worse – because they can’t afford basic prescription drugs.
In a recent interview with Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Cuban shared his motivation to break into this industry.
“The idea that people have to choose between rent, food and medicine is abhorrent,” the NBA team owner told Showbiz Cheat Sheet in an email. “When Alex came to me with the idea of a low-cost pharmacy, I was immediately excited about the opportunity. pricing and transparency.

Mark Cuban shares his findings on the pharmaceutical industry
Many Cuba followers are posting requests for specific medications, with some asking if Cost Plus might soon offer insulin. The shark tank investor explained what he has discovered so far about the pharmaceutical sector.
“What I found fascinating is that the manufacturers aren’t the bad guys they’re supposed to be — and that includes some of the insulin makers,” Cuban Inc. said. “There are companies called managers Pharmacy Benefits (PBM) who are the custodians of all prescriptions paid by insurance companies. If drug manufacturers want their drugs prescribed, they need to play the game the way pharmacy benefit managers want it to be played. Which means setting artificially high retail prices, paying rebates to PBMs, and more, to stay approved.
He added: “As a result, PBMs have the most power in the industry. Not the manufacturers.
Cuban is clearly committed to providing a wider selection to patients through Cost Plus, regardless of profit margins.
